A Monarch meets the Monarch follows the travels of a little Monarch butterfly from Canada, who sets out on a long journey to her winter home in Mexico. During this migration, the little Monarch gets caught in a violent storm and is blown across the sea to a far off land. (Yes that has happened on very rare occasions - like in 2006 - see below.)
The little Monarch faces a variety of hurdles and endures many obstacles, but eventually arrives in a beautiful garden where she meets a King.
What inspired the book
It was in October of 2006 when James was reading a newspaper article about a Monarch butterfly that set out on its migration to Mexico. It is blown 5000-kilometres off course only to land in England. In the article, the butterfly landed in the backyard of England's leading lepidopterist, who fortunately is a person that studies butterflies and moths.
A Monarch meets the Monarch was inspired by this extremely rare event, and is a fictional account of the adventures of one such butterfly.
